I love a good life hack, especially something for our kids.
I was home for my second maternity leave when my eldest started kindergarten. I noticed that when she got home her first instinct was to watch T.V. and throw her backpack in a corner.
I get that she wanted to unwind but she’d forget to wash her hands and take out her lunch box. Believe me, these needed some serious washing at the end of the school day.
I’m always trying to find ways to stay productive and I’ve found checklists very helpful for myself.
There’s something satisfying about scratching things off a list, it also keeps my priorities in order. I realized, if I found it helpful for myself, she could use one too.
I remember, since Julia just started learning how to read, I wanted to make an after school checklist that had drawings she can recognize. I also thought it would be important to have her name on top so she knows it’s made especially for her.
Being a graphic designer, I was able to create something since I couldn’t find what I was looking for on Pinterest at the time; at least not ones with illustrations.
Ever since then, I’ve updated the design and drew some new icons for it.
Do you think you can use one of these too? Well you’re in luck! I’m offering them as a free* printable. Click here and I’ll email you our after school checklist. Don’t forget to personalize the name when you get it.
See how it works for your household, it’s been really helpful for us. Since I started this with my eldest, she’s excited for her siblings when they get their own lists. I make one for each of our four children now.
I recently came up with the idea of putting this on a dry erase whiteboard, this way it can be reused over and over. You can purchase one of these from our shop now if you prefer that instead. Shop!
Let me know how it goes?
I recommend you speak to your child about their new checklist and get them excited. The order they do things and timing may vary, you know your child best. The idea is to get their important tasks out of the way before some free play.
Tip: You might want to introduce a prize at the end of the week for a fully-completed checklist. 😉
If you found this helpful, share it with a friend. Thank you for your support of independent business owners.
